- * Yeast PIR proteins repeats signature *
- ****************************************
-
- Three yeast extracellular glycoproteins that are characterized by the presence
- of 8 to 11 tandem repeats of a region of 18 to 19 residues have been recently
- isolated [1]. These proteins are known as PIR1, PIR2 (also known as HSP150)
- and PIR3. The exact function of the PIR proteins is not yet known.
-
- The core region of the repeat is highly conserved and is used here as a
- signature pattern.
-
- One occurrence of the core region is also present in the yeast serine-rich
- proteins SRP1 and TIR2 [2]. The PIR proteins as well as SRP1 and TIR2 are
- induced upon stress conditions.
-
- -Consensus pattern: S-Q-[IV]-[STG]-D-G-Q-[IV]-Q-A-[STA]
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
- -Last update: June 1994 / Text revised.
